Marlon Wayans has expressed sharp criticism toward Elon Musk regarding his strained relationship with his transgender daughter, Vivian Wilson. The comedian didn’t hold back during a recent episode of the “Club Shay Shay” podcast, airing on September 10, where he revealed his disdain for how Musk has treated his child.
Wayans humorously remarked that he was tempted to drive his Tesla “over a cliff” due to Musk’s remarks about his daughter, who is now 20 years old. “I don’t like what he says about his trans child,” Wayans stated during the podcast, emphasizing that disowning one’s child is unacceptable. He urged Musk to embrace his daughter with love, saying, “You don’t treat them babies like that.”
The actor, best known for his roles in “White Chicks” and “Scary Movie,” shared his own journey of acceptance surrounding his son Kai Wayans’ transition, which he publicly acknowledged in November 2023. Wayans recounted experiencing a mix of emotions as he navigated the transition, stating it felt like a significant loss but ultimately led to a place of acceptance for him. “That’s my baby,” he insisted, showing solidarity with parents who struggle through this process.
Wayans, who is also a father to his 22-year-old son Shawn, empathized with Musk’s situation, noting that not all parents reach the level of acceptance he aimed for. He expressed disappointment over Musk’s rhetoric, which he felt was damaging.
Elon Musk’s complicated relationship with his daughter has been highly publicized, especially after she requested a legal name and gender change in 2022, choosing to distance herself from her father entirely, stating she “no longer wish[ed] to be related” to him. Musk, who has fathered 11 other children, responded to their estrangement with a dismissive comment, saying, “You can’t win them all.”
Vivian, now known as Vivian Jenna Wilson, has also publicly criticized her father, accusing him of having a warped understanding of her upbringing and referring to Musk’s comments as “entirely fake.” She has been vocal about her feelings towards him, labeling him in various harsh terms after situations arising from his public statements.
Wayans’ heartfelt comments on the podcast have sparked discussions about parental acceptance and the challenges faced by families navigating similar circumstances, highlighting the struggles and victories within the LGBTQIA+ community.
