Kering, the renowned French luxury conglomerate, has announced significant leadership changes for two of its esteemed brands: Saint Laurent and Balenciaga. Cédric Charbit is set to take the reins as CEO of Saint Laurent, while Gianfranco Gianangeli will step into the role of CEO at Balenciaga, with both appointments taking effect on January 2, 2025.
Reporting directly to Francesca Bellettini, Kering’s Deputy CEO responsible for Brand Development, these appointments are part of Kering’s strategic initiative to bolster brand growth. Charbit, who has a long-standing history with the group since joining as the Product Strategy Director for Saint Laurent in 2012, previously served as Balenciaga’s CEO starting in 2016. His mission now is to further capitalize on Saint Laurent’s rich heritage and unique brand identity.
On the other hand, Gianangeli, who has a robust background in the luxury sector, has worked with numerous prestigious Italian and French brands. Most recently, he served as Saint Laurent’s Chief Commercial Officer. Now at the helm of Balenciaga, he will focus on amplifying the brand’s global presence and prestige, succeeding Charbit.
Francesca Bellettini expressed confidence in both leaders, stating, “Cédric’s deep understanding of Saint Laurent positions him perfectly to guide the brand towards continued success. Likewise, Gianfranco’s extensive experience and visionary approach make him ideally suited to enhance Balenciaga’s standing in the luxury market.”
Kering’s Chairman and CEO, François-Henri Pinault, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that these leadership adjustments strengthen Kering’s organizational framework. He stated, “With Francesca Bellettini devoted to her role in brand development and Jean-Marc Duplaix ensuring operational efficiency across the corporate structure, we are well-equipped to navigate the industry’s challenges and pursue sustainable growth.”
As Kering solidifies its leadership team, the fashion industry watches keenly, eager to see how these changes will influence the trajectories of Saint Laurent and Balenciaga in an ever-evolving market landscape.
