In a significant development in the energy sector, CB&I, a subsidiary of McDermott, has successfully shipped three of the five PAU modules designated for Viva Energy’s Gasoline Masterplan Project. These modules were fabricated at CB&I’s state-of-the-art facility in Kasemphol, Thailand, and are en route to the Geelong refinery in Australia.
Viva Energy’s ambitious project comprises a total of seven modules, with completion projected for late 2024. Mark Butts, Senior Vice President at CB&I, emphasized the dedication of the local team, highlighting their commitment to safety and operational excellence throughout the shipment process. He remarked on how the team’s efforts have established the Thailand execution office as a key player in the mid-size module fabrication market.
The fabrication endeavor at the Kasemphol facility began in the first quarter of 2023, with the first shipment featuring pipe rack modules completed in March 2024. The modules being shipped now represent an essential component of the company’s plans for an ultra-low sulfur gasoline plant as part of this Gasoline Masterplan Project.
With a well-equipped assembly yard, local suppliers, and a skilled workforce within an 80 km radius, the Kasemphol facility is perfectly positioned to meet the rigorous timelines set forth by Viva Energy. The project entails three shipments in total, and the final batch of PAU modules is expected to be delivered by the end of 2024, marking a significant milestone in CB&I’s operations and a vital development for the energy sector in Australia.
