John Legend and Chrissy Teigen have found that their son’s recent health challenge has brought them even closer as a couple. Their six-year-old son, Miles, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes—a chronic condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin—after he fell ill at summer camp.
The diagnosis was a significant and emotional moment for the couple, but they felt reassured in their ability to face the situation together. Legend shared that, when Miles was taken to the emergency room, doctors initially suspected his symptoms could be a reaction to an infection. However, after further testing, it was confirmed that Miles had type 1 diabetes.
Legend noted that Teigen was understandably upset upon hearing the news, but she has been proactive in learning how to manage Miles’s condition. Legend himself approached the situation with a “very optimistic” and “practical” mindset. He recalled, “As soon as I learned that he had this, I knew it was going to be life-changing for him and for us, but I’m also like, ‘We can do this.'”
He emphasized that the couple has received great advice and support, which has helped them adapt to their new reality. For Legend, the experience has underscored the strength of their partnership. “This speaks to us feeling like a team and knowing we can do this. It just makes us stronger,” he said.
Legend also mentioned that Miles is still early in his diagnosis, and the family is in the phase where insulin is still partially compensating for the lack of natural production. As the disease progresses, they will need to be even more vigilant, carefully monitoring his blood sugar levels, counting carbohydrates, and administering insulin as needed. This ongoing adjustment requires them to be highly aware and proactive in their care routines.
Despite the challenges, Legend and Teigen remain hopeful and focused on providing the best care for their son while strengthening their bond through this shared experience.
