Joaquin Phoenix recently praised Lady Gaga for her impressive physical transformation into Harley Quinn while promoting their upcoming film “Joker: Folie à Deux.”
During a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, Phoenix, who was discussing his own weight loss for the film, commended Gaga’s dedication.
“Stefani also underwent a significant weight loss,” Phoenix noted, as reported by Variety. “I remember meeting you during rehearsals, and then you were away for a month. When you returned, the change was remarkable.”
He continued, “It was truly impressive and seemed very challenging.”
The “Die With A Smile” singer expressed her gratitude to Phoenix, acknowledging the shared journey of transformation. “I think we both evolved into our characters over time, paying attention to every detail,” Gaga said.
Earlier in the press conference, Phoenix, who reprises his role as the Joker, declined to detail the diet he followed for the film’s sequel. He mentioned that the process was more complex this time due to extensive dance rehearsals.
Phoenix also indicated that he might avoid roles that require significant weight changes in the future. “At 49, I probably shouldn’t do this again,” he said, adding that he aims to avoid becoming fixated on specific weight goals.
Gaga, playing Harley Quinn, also refrained from discussing specifics about her transformation. The film, which also stars Phoenix as Joker, is set for release on October 4.
