Henry Cavill Joins Voltron Movie Directed by Red Notice Filmmaker
In a thrilling announcement, Amazon and MGM have revealed that Henry Cavill is set to lead the cast of the upcoming “Voltron” movie, a feature adaptation of the iconic animated series. Known for his portrayal of Superman in “Man of Steel” and his role in “The Witcher,” Cavill is sure to bring significant star power to this beloved franchise. The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, although details regarding Cavill’s specific character are still under wraps.
Rawson Marshall Thurber, who directed hits like “Red Notice” and “Central Intelligence,” will helm the “Voltron” movie. While plot details remain a closely guarded secret, Cavill will share the screen with newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye. As of now, there’s no timeline for when filming is set to commence.
Originally launched in the mid-1980s, the “Voltron” series follows five young pilots who command robotic lions that unite to form a colossal robot known as Voltron, reminiscent of the Megazord from “Power Rangers.” Although Cavill has stepped away from his role as Superman following his brief appearance in 2022’s “Black Adam,” he is far from slowing down in the entertainment industry.
Currently, Cavill is gearing up to shoot the long-anticipated remake of “Highlander,” directed by Chad Stahelski of the “John Wick” fame. It’s likely he will complete this project before diving into the “Voltron” film under Thurber’s direction. However, this isn’t the only ambitious project on Cavill’s slate.
After leading Netflix’s “The Witcher” until recently, when Liam Hemsworth took over, Cavill remains entrenched in the realm of fan-favorite franchises. Alongside “Highlander,” he is also slated to star in and produce an adaptation of the popular tabletop game “Warhammer 40,000,” which is also in the works at Amazon.
Cavill’s recent projects include Guy Ritchie’s “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” and Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle,” neither of which achieved substantial box office success. Given this context, a successful entry into the franchise world could be just what the actor needs after his mixed experiences as Superman.
Thurber, along with Ellen Shanman, has collaborated on the screenplay for this new “Voltron” venture. The film’s production team includes Todd Lieberman, Bob Koplar, Thurber, and David Hoberman. While the release date for the “Voltron” movie is yet to be announced, excitement continues to build, and fans will want to stay tuned for updates.
