Get Ready for Marvel’s Sam Wilson: Captain America #2 With an Exclusive Sneak Peek
The Marvel Cinematic Universe enjoyed a brief hiatus in 2024, featuring only a few entries like the loosely-connected film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” the spinoff series “Echo” focused on “Hawkeye,” and the witch-themed Disney+ show “Agatha All Along,” along with the concluding season of the animated anthology “What If…?” Now, in 2025, the MCU is roaring back to life, kicking off with “Captain America: Brave New World.” Following the events of “Falcon and The Winter Soldier,” Sam Wilson, portrayed by Anthony Mackie, has officially taken on the mantle of Captain America for the fourth film in the franchise.
Sam will get tangled up in an international conspiracy involving notable characters from the Hulk universe, including President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by Harrison Ford, and the nefarious scientist Samuel Sterns/The Leader, personified by Tim Blake Nelson. This sets the stage for the much-anticipated movie synergy within the Marvel realm. Currently, Sam is front and center in Jed MacKay’s “Avengers,” which has recently introduced a surprise character from Spider-Man’s universe.
January 2025 marks the relaunch of the ongoing “Captain America” comic, now titled “Sam Wilson: Captain America,” shifting the narrative spotlight from Steve Rogers to Sam. Co-written by Greg Pak and Evan Narcisse with Eder Messias handling the artwork, “Sam Wilson: Captain America” makes clear connections to “Brave New World,” especially with the Red Hulk guest-starring in this series. Marvel has provided an exclusive unlettered preview of “Sam Wilson: Captain America” #2, showcasing an intense cover illustration by Taurin Clarke.
The action in “Sam Wilson: Captain America” #2 picks up right where the first issue left off, with Sam poised to confront the Red Hulk. In this battle, Sam employs his shield and his unique mental connection with birds to defend himself against the brute strength of the Red Hulk. Standing alongside Sam is his cousin Billie, a significant character in this arcs.
Following the explosive confrontation, Sam finds himself imprisoned by Dennis Harmon, who was introduced in the previous issue as the “richest man in the Southwest” who claims to be on a mission to combat poverty and hunger through innovative floating platform farms. However, it soon appears that Harmon isn’t all that he seems. Fortunately, help arrives in the form of Josiah X, who rushes to Sam’s aid.
Josiah, the son of Isaiah Bradley—the first Black super-soldier, as depicted by Carl Lumbly in the MCU—is himself a genetically engineered super-soldier but is determined to forge his own path. His last name is not just a superhero moniker; it pays homage to Malcolm X, who famously used “X” to represent the family name lost due to the legacy of slavery in America. Although Josiah’s presence in “Brave New World” has yet to be confirmed, his father is set to appear, notably implicated in an assassination attempt on Ross.
Before Marvel enthusiasts dive into this Brave New World, the ongoing saga of “Sam Wilson: Captain America” will keep them engaged. Look out for “Sam Wilson: Captain America” #2, set to debut in both print and digital formats on February 12, 2025, just two days before “Captain America: Brave New World” premieres in theaters on February 14, 2025.
