Retro Rock Chronicles: Episode 10 – Stryper ‘Against the Law’ (1990)
This week, we dive back into the vibrant era of the 90s, focusing on a band known for their Glam Metal roots but who took a daring turn in their identity. We’re discussing Stryper’s album ‘Against the Law’, which marked a significant departure from their established image. Gone is the signature yellow and black, along with the overtly Christian themes that previously defined their music. While the band didn’t veer into darker territory, the lyrics took on a more diverse and uplifting character.
Released on August 21, 1990, ‘Against the Law’ featured three singles but fell short of the commercial success many believed it deserved. Interestingly, frontman Michael Sweet has cited it as his least favorite Stryper album, a sentiment that contrasts with my view that it represents their best work.
In this episode, I’ll break down the album track by track, assessing whether it’s worth your time. Tune in live on October 10, 2024, at noon to join the conversation. Your support means a lot—if you enjoy the content, please hit “Like” and subscribe to help us grow.
