Valerie Bertinelli is marking a significant milestone—two years of “freedom” following her divorce from Tom Vitale. The acclaimed actress and chef, now 64, took to social media to share an uplifting message with her followers, emphasizing that life does improve with time.
Reflecting on her journey, Bertinelli expressed that during the tough times, she never lost faith in her ability to overcome challenges. In her heartfelt Instagram post, she shared, “I didn’t know how I was going to get through it, but I knew that somehow I would.”
Her divorce from Vitale, which was finalized in November 2022 after their marriage in January 2011, came after years of what she described as tolerating the intolerable. Bertinelli used this anniversary to celebrate personal growth, stating, “Today marks two years of freedom. Two years of walking through self-doubt and doing my best to get to the other side.” She conveyed her realization that she didn’t merit putting up with unhealthy dynamics.
Bertinelli acknowledged the emotional support from her recent boyfriend, Mike Goodnough, with whom she shared ten months before parting ways. She credited him with helping her rediscover love and embrace her emotional side again.
She referred to her current life chapter as her “last,” emphasizing the importance of self-love and acceptance. Bertinelli shared, “Until I love myself and accept myself, all of me, my dark and light sides, I can never give someone else the love and emotional vulnerability that they need and deserve.”
The actress has dedicated the past two years to overcoming personal struggles and trauma, aiming to present her most authentic self. While she recognizes that some days will be challenging, she reassured her fans that there will also be moments of brightness.
Bertinelli expressed gratitude for the support she’s received, saying, “If you’re struggling right now, I’ve been there, and some days I can still be there. But I want you to know it does get better.” She encouraged her followers with the message that life will bring brighter days, reassuring them with warmth and love.
Her path back to happiness follows a prior marriage to rock legend Eddie Van Halen, which lasted from 1981 until 2007 and produced one son, Wolfgang. After his passing in 2020, Bertinelli has committed herself to healing and personal reflection, ultimately emerging stronger and more self-assured.
