Serena Williams Responds to Skin Bleaching Rumors
In a spirited Instagram Live session, tennis icon Serena Williams took a moment to address and refute the baseless accusations that she engages in skin bleaching. The athlete took to the platform to share a makeup tutorial and set the record straight.
“To all the naysayers out there, I do not bleach my skin,” Serena stated firmly while applying concealer. “The shade I use is simply a neutral color that matches my natural skin tone. Let’s be clear: sunlight creates a variety of tones on our skin.”
The speculation about her skin color intensified after she posted a photo of herself in stage makeup while attending her daughter’s school play. “It’s absurd that people are saying that I bleach my skin,” she expressed, emphasizing her pride in her identity. “I am a proud dark Black woman, and I cherish who I am and how I look. This isn’t part of my journey. If others choose to take a different path, that’s their choice, and I respect that.”
Beyond addressing these rumors, Williams has been candid about her personal beauty experiences. Earlier this year, she shared insights into her postpartum body changes and her willingness to invest time in self-care treatments. “Taking time for myself has always been a challenge,” she remarked after receiving a radio-frequency treatment for her stomach scars, which she detailed in a video.
“The results have been fantastic,” she shared. “I can already see improvements and feel my confidence returning.” Serena and her husband Alexis Ohanian are parents to two daughters, Olympia and Adira, and the couple has been married since 2017.
In a world increasingly rife with speculation, Williams’ empowering message resonates with many: embracing one’s identity and rejecting unfounded criticisms is essential. As she put it succinctly, “Let’s just clear this up once and for all.”
