Kim Kardashian Advocates for Fair Pay for Incarcerated Firefighters Amid LA Wildfires
In a passionate call to action, Kim Kardashian is urging California Governor Gavin Newsom to improve wages for the incarcerated firefighters who are courageously battling the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. In a heartfelt post on her Instagram Stories, Kardashian highlighted the dangerous conditions these firefighters face as they fight multiple blazes, including the Palisades and Eaton fires in Pasadena.
“During these five fires in Los Angeles, hundreds of incarcerated firefighters are putting their lives on the line to protect us,” she stated. Noting their current pay of only $1 per hour, Kardashian emphasized that this rate has remained unchanged since 1984, despite the increased risks and challenges they encounter. “It’s never been adjusted for inflation or in response to the escalating severity of these fires. Some have made the ultimate sacrifice,” she wrote.
Kardashian noted that although there was a proposal to raise the pay to $5 per hour, this initiative was unfortunately rejected at the last moment. She passionately urged Governor Newsom to take action, calling on him to set a precedent that hasn’t been established in four decades. “We need to increase their wages to a level that recognizes the human beings risking their lives to save communities and homes,” she added.
In her message, Kardashian also expressed gratitude towards the Ventura Training Center, which prepares formerly incarcerated firefighters to secure entry-level positions in firefighting. This center helps these individuals transition back into society by providing vital skills training and opportunities for reducing their sentences.
As the wildfires rage on, Kim and her family have also experienced the need to evacuate their luxurious homes. Despite their personal challenges, the Kardashians are committed to giving back to the community, providing meals from a local restaurant to multiple fire stations across Los Angeles. Furthermore, Kim’s shapewear company, Skims, has stepped in to assist families affected by the wildfires through essential clothing donations.
