According to recent official statistics, both exports and imports saw an uptick of 1.3% and 1.2% respectively in September, while exports faced a slight quarter-on-quarter decrease of 0.6% and imports saw a modest rise of 0.8% in the third quarter of 2024.
Breaking down the figures, Italy’s exports to EU nations rose by 2.4% month-on-month, while those directed towards non-EU countries experienced a smaller increase of 0.2%. However, the import dynamics reflected a different story: imports from EU countries spiked by 3% month-on-month, whereas imports from non-EU regions fell by 1.3% during the same period.
Looking at the year-on-year trends for September, exports dropped by 2.2%, which also mirrored a 3% decrease for EU countries and a 1.4% decline for non-EU nations. On the import side, Italy saw a 3.2% reduction compared to the previous year, with imports from EU countries rising by 1.1% but those from outside the EU plunging by 8.8%.
