Donald Glover has made the tough decision to cancel the remaining dates of his Childish Gambino New World Tour due to a health issue that requires surgery. Announcing the news via social media, Glover shared, “After my performance in New Orleans, I went to the hospital in Houston for an ailment that I had noticed,” adding that after assessment, it became evident that he could not continue the tour. He further explained that he needs time to heal and has a surgery scheduled.
The Grammy-winning artist did not disclose specific details about the ailment but emphasized the necessity of taking his recovery process seriously. In his message, he expressed his deep desire to perform for his fans, stating, “I want nothing more than to bring this show to the fans and perform.” He thanked his supporters for their understanding and privacy during this challenging time.
Glover, 41, had previously postponed his concert in Houston on September 8 due to illness and shortly after announced that the rest of his North American tour would also be delayed to prioritize his health. Since kicking off in August, the New World Tour was intended to wrap up in the U.S. this week before heading to Europe and the UK.
This tour was particularly significant as it marked Glover’s last performances under the Childish Gambino moniker, a name he has expressed feeling was no longer fulfilling. He previously revealed to the media that he no longer found the stage name to be satisfying. Glover’s final record released under this name, “Bando Stone & the New World,” debuted in July.
Glover’s fans can expect refunds for any tickets purchased, as he continues to focus on his recovery process.
