Cheryl Hines is opening up about her marriage to Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following the controversy surrounding his alleged sexting affair with political journalist Olivia Nuzzi. At a recent event celebrating the Groundlings’ 50th anniversary in Los Angeles, Hines shared that she’s penning a book to address the “rumors” that have surfaced during this tumultuous time. “There are lots of emotions with these rumors,” she told Us Weekly while still wearing her wedding ring. She added, “But, it will all be in my book. I’ve been taking serious notes!”
Hines, who stars in the comedy “RV,” seems to be focusing on family fun amid the swirling gossip about her ten-year marriage. “They’re fun. I mean, if I had a boring family, it would be tough,” she remarked, emphasizing the importance of embracing uncertainty instead of resisting it. “I’m trying to appreciate the little moments and not take anything too seriously, even when I find myself in very serious situations!”
These comments come in the wake of news that Kennedy, 70, has found himself in hot water due to an alleged affair involving Nuzzi, a 31-year-old political correspondent. The scandal caused Nuzzi to be suspended from her role at New York Magazine, after admitting to engaging in an inappropriate relationship with Kennedy.
Despite the drama, Hines is committed to presenting a united front with her husband. They share a 20-year-old daughter, Catherine Rose, while Kennedy has other children from previous relationships. Reflecting on the key to a lasting marriage, Hines spoke about the significance of connection in their relationship. She explained, “You look at your partner, and with all the chaos surrounding you, you check in and say, ‘Okay. It’s going to be okay. We’ll get through this moment.'”
She reminisced about their early days together, mentioning how she thought Kennedy’s reluctance to enter politics was refreshing. “When I met Bobby, he said he could do more good as an environmental attorney without being beholden to companies or corporations,” she explained. But life took unexpected turns, particularly after Kennedy launched his presidential campaign in 2024, only to later withdraw and endorse Donald Trump.
Hines addressed the complex feelings that politics can stir, especially in the entertainment industry. “People have a lot of strong feelings about politics, but I don’t allow it to define who he is or us as a couple. I try to let the negativity wash over me.”
Married since 2014, the couple has faced their share of trials but maintains a sense of humor about it all. Hines concluded, “Sometimes it’s just funny, and you can lean over and say, ‘This is crazy,’ share a laugh, and then hold your head up high to face whatever comes next.”
As she prepares to share her journey in her forthcoming book, it’s clear that Hines remains focused on family and resilience amidst the challenges ahead.
