Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, has stepped up to defend her daughter against a baseless rumor surfacing on social media. The 70-year-old took to Instagram to address allegations claiming that Beyoncé received a staggering $10 million to attend a rally for Vice President Kamala Harris in Houston last October.
In her post, Knowles shared a blurred screenshot of a now-removed post from Candace Owens’ podcast account, calling out the misinformation as “fake news.” She emphasized that Beyoncé received nothing for her appearance at the rally, where she passionately endorsed Harris as part of her civic duties.
Tina made clear that the assertion of Beyoncé being paid was entirely false. “The lie is that Beyoncé was paid 10 million dollars to speak at a rally in Houston for Vice President Kamala Harris,” Knowles wrote. She further explained that not only did Beyoncé attend the rally for free, but she also covered her own expenses, including travel and styling.
The matriarch expressed concern that these false claims not only tarnish Beyoncé’s reputation but also undermine the integrity of Vice President Harris, who faced a tough 2024 presidential election. “They are not only lying and disrespecting Beyoncé’s name but they are trying to further discredit the power of our vice president!” Knowles declared.
Fellow artist John Legend offered his support in the comments, stating, “Let em know, Ms Tina! We all performed/appeared for free because we care about our nation’s future.”
At the rally, which featured Beyoncé alongside fellow Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, Beyoncé conveyed her commitment to social issues, stating, “I’m here as a mother, a mother who cares about the world our children live in.”
Meanwhile, other celebrities like Oprah Winfrey echoed similar sentiments, denying rumors about payments related to the Harris campaign despite financial transactions in their production companies.
This incident has spotlighted the challenges public figures face with misinformation, especially during a charged election season.
