How Antony Starr Feels About The Boys Concluding With Season 5
By Danielle Ryan Sept. 28, 2024
Saying farewell to a beloved television series is never a simple task, even for an actor playing a character as dark as the brutal Homelander. Antony Starr, who has brought this villainous supe to life on Prime Video’s “The Boys” for four gripping seasons, undoubtedly has mixed emotions with the show’s impending conclusion in season 5. On one hand, he may find some relief in stepping away from the character’s extreme and twisted nature, but on the other, the camaraderie among the cast and crew is a significant aspect he will miss.
During a recent appearance on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast, Starr and some of his co-stars opened up about their sentiments regarding the finale. Starr, known for his candidness, admitted he is a bit astonished that the show has continued for so long. What weighs more heavily for him is the importance of how the series wraps up rather than just when it ends.
Starr remarked that while Eric Kripke, the show’s creator and showrunner, always envisioned five seasons, he himself had doubts about the show’s longevity. However, he expressed gratitude that the series has thrived and emphasized the collective desire to exit on a high note.
Starr shared his thoughts, saying, “Kripke had mapped out five seasons from the beginning. Truthfully, I was skeptical and thought we might only make it to two. But here we are, and it’s been a success. Everyone wants to finish strong; nothing feels worse than a disappointing final season which leaves a stain on everyone’s memory. I believe we’ll go out with impact, and we deserve that.”
Starr hinted at several series that might have missed the mark in their final outings, underscoring the significance of leaving a lasting positive impression. Fans of “The Boys” are eagerly anticipating an explosive conclusion, but just how that will unfold remains uncertain.
Will Homelander Meet His End?
A major question lingering for fans is whether the infamous Homelander will meet his demise before the credits roll. The show has diverged significantly from its source material, leaving his fate up in the air. Kripke has indicated that characters could face unexpected farewells, but many viewers would likely not be displeased if Homelander were to exit the scene. As one of the show’s most reprehensible antagonists, his elimination would certainly not come as a shock. In the comic series, he does face his end at the hands of Black Noir, who is his clone. However, due to the show’s departure from that storyline, any predictions about his fate require a leap into the unknown.
Most speculation suggests that Butcher could be the one to take him down, but the possibilities are endless. Perhaps Homelander could undergo a change of heart at the end, spurred by Ryan, ultimately sacrificing himself to save others from Butcher’s wrath. Alternatively, he might be taken out by a younger hero from “Gen V.” Nevertheless, it’s improbable that Homelander will survive the final season. Yet, if his exit is executed with the trademark over-the-top violence fans have come to love, there’s a good chance the audience will be satisfied.
As of now, “The Boys” season 5 has not announced a premiere date.
