Anna Delvey is calling for an apology from ABC’s “The View” after co-host Whoopi Goldberg made an inaccurate statement about her legal situation.
On Thursday, the hosts of the popular daytime talk show criticized both Delvey and the network for featuring her on “Dancing With the Stars.” Goldberg, in particular, expressed frustration over Delvey’s ongoing presence in the US, stating, “She still owes people money. I don’t understand why she gets to stay [in the US]!”
Delvey, who was convicted of defrauding individuals and businesses out of over $250,000 by pretending to be a wealthy heiress, responded to Goldberg’s comments through a statement given to Page Six. In her statement, she challenged Goldberg’s accuracy, saying, “While you are entitled to your own opinions, you should at least get your facts straight. I served my time and paid everyone back in full three-plus years ago. Looking forward to your on-air correction. Stay nasty ladies, but don’t forget to vote Sept. 17!” This date refers to when fans can vote for her first performance on the dance competition show.
Delvey was released from prison in February 2021 but remains under house arrest by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as she awaits a decision on her immigration status. Despite this, she has been granted special permission by a judge to travel to Los Angeles to compete on “Dancing With the Stars,” where she will be monitored with an ankle bracelet during her performances alongside professional dancer Ezra Sosa.
Delvey reportedly repaid a significant portion of the money she stole using earnings from her Netflix series “Inventing Anna,” which dramatizes her life and crimes.
The call for an apology comes as Delvey’s participation in the reality show has stirred controversy, with critics questioning the decision to include her in the lineup. Delvey’s response highlights her frustration with what she perceives as misinformation about her legal and financial status.
