Katy Perry is set to receive the prestigious Video Vanguard Award at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, the network announced on Thursday. The pop sensation will also deliver a spectacular medley of her greatest hits during the ceremony.
Joining her on the lineup are previously announced performers Sabrina Carpenter, Camila Cabello, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro.
The Video Vanguard Award, a lifetime achievement honor, has previously been given to icons such as Shakira, Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj, Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, and Justin Timberlake.
At 39, Perry will make her first appearance at the VMAs since 2017, when she served as both host and performer. She has won five VMAs throughout her career, including the Video of the Year award for “Firework” in 2011. Perry’s seventh studio album, “143,” is set for release on September 20.
Paramount executive Bruce Gillmer praised Perry, stating, “Katy is a musical powerhouse and true pop culture icon. With her game-changing creative vision, she has become a global phenomenon and taken over the world’s biggest stages.”
Gillmer continued, “Katy’s prowess will be on full display live on the VMAs with a can’t-miss, career-encompassing performance celebrating her biggest moments and chart-topping hits.”
This year’s VMAs, airing live on September 11 at 8 p.m. ET from UBS Arena at Belmont Park in Elmont, NY, will also feature Taylor Swift leading the nominations with ten nods, largely for her “Fortnight” music video and Artist of the Year category. Post Malone follows with nine nominations, while Ariana Grande, Eminem, and first-time nominee Sabrina Carpenter each have six.
