Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tom Dean recently expressed his regret over a mishap with his dance partner Nadiya Bychkova during rehearsal sessions. The duo appeared on Wednesday’s It Takes Two, where they shared insights about their inaugural live performance and what fans can expect from their upcoming act.
Tom, a 24-year-old Olympic swimmer, revealed that they encountered a minor accident while training. He admitted, with a hint of humor, that being 6 feet 5 inches tall with size 13 shoes doesn’t always facilitate smooth dancing. During the show, host Janette Manrara quipped about Tom’s size, joking that he excels in the pool but struggles to avoid stepping on Nadiya’s toes.
“Let’s just say that stepping on toes has happened a few times,” Tom shared candidly. Comically, he mentioned an incident where he accidentally caught Nadiya’s foot, commenting, “I went full in with the heel at one point by accident.” Nadiya, who also laughed at the situation, chimed in, “On the broken toe!” To which Tom added, “All 13 of them went down. I felt very, very apologetic.”
Following the light-hearted exchange, Janette checked in on Nadiya’s recovery, to which she confidently responded, “These Ukrainian toes are very strong, and they’re all fine. We’re making sure that’s not happening again.”
Looking ahead, the pair is gearing up for a performance of the Cha Cha Cha on Strictly this weekend. Tom humorously remarked about their struggles, saying, “We spent about half an hour trying to learn how to walk, and I just couldn’t wrap my head around it.” However, he remains optimistic as they continue to work through the challenges.
Tom also provided an update on their week two dance routine via Instagram, mentioning, “This week it’s all hips and chest, standing up tall.” Nadiya shared a post featuring Tom asking, “What do I do with my face?” to which she assured him, “Your face is great! Let’s work on everything else.”
