Katy Perry recently opened up about her brief split from Orlando Bloom in 2017, describing it as a challenging period. The singer shared insights during her appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, revealing that their breakup stemmed from mismatched expectations and personal growth.
Perry and Bloom first crossed paths at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016, but by the following year, their relationship had faltered. The split came after Bloom attended The Hoffman Process, a week-long retreat that left him seeking a different kind of connection.
On the podcast, Perry explained, “We weren’t truly aligned from the start. He was coming out of a period of celibacy with clear intentions, while I was freshly out of a relationship and needed to focus on myself. I realized I needed to take a step back and do some serious personal work.”
Katy elaborated that Bloom’s return from the retreat brought a new perspective that didn’t align with her own. “When he came back, he wasn’t interested in playing games anymore, and I found that boring. I was accustomed to the push-pull dynamic, but it felt stagnant.”
Their separation lasted a “really tough year” before Perry decided to attend The Hoffman Process herself. She credited the retreat with transforming her life, saying it helped her connect her thoughts and emotions in a meaningful way.
“When I finally went to Hoffman towards the end of that year, it gave me the tools to understand myself better. It was crucial for me to rewire my self-perception and connect my head to my heart.”
Perry reflected on their reunion, noting how Bloom’s unwavering support helped her recognize him as the right partner. “I showed him the worst side of myself, and he remained steadfast. That made me realize he was the one for me. If he could handle that, then we were meant to be together.”
Now, Perry and Bloom, who share a four-year-old daughter, Daisy, continue to nurture their relationship through couple’s therapy and mutual growth. Perry emphasized their commitment to evolving together and raising their child in a supportive environment.
“We’re committed to evolving and becoming better individuals for the sake of our family. It’s an ongoing journey with its challenges, but we’re dedicated to doing the work and finding the next level in our relationship,” she said.
