Lala Kent, known for her role on Vanderpump Rules, recently opened up about a distressing moment during the birth of her newborn daughter, Sosa. In a candid episode of her podcast, Give Them Lala, she shared the intense experience that unfolded shortly after Sosa’s arrival.
The reality star, who celebrated a smooth second pregnancy, encountered unexpected challenges during labor. Upon her final pushes, Lala observed her obstetrician springing into action, glancing nervously at the monitor while communicating with the nurse. “I could sense something was off,” Lala recounted. “When I asked if everything was alright, the doctor assured me to keep pushing.”
It was later revealed that Sosa had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck multiple times. Fortunately, Lala’s doctor maintained his composure and did not reveal the concerning situation to her. After Sosa was delivered, Lala attempted to hold her, but immediately sensed something was wrong. The baby remained quiet after an initial cry, prompting worry in the room.
A nurse quickly sprang into action, rubbing Sosa’s chest and clearing her mouth of any fluid. Lala, feeling anxious and unsure, refrained from touching her baby, fearful it might worsen the situation. “With such a rapid delivery, she ingested a lot of amniotic fluid,” Kent explained.
The situation escalated as Sosa turned a concerning shade of purple, sparking alarm among the medical staff. Lala vividly remembered the nurse’s reaction as they called for extra assistance. Medical professionals soon arrived, and a specialist was brought in to evaluate Sosa. They began the process of draining the excess fluid, collecting significant amounts from her stomach.
“The doctors hinted that either a pediatric surgeon would need to intervene or Sosa might require care in the NICU,” Lala shared, reflecting on the moment that left her feeling frantic and questioning everything. She expressed her frustration, asking, “What the f—k?” as she processed the unfolding drama.
Despite these scary moments, Lala mentioned that Sosa ultimately stabilized. She expressed a mix of relief and guilt as she thought back on her pregnancy. “I felt it was perfect and did everything right, but when things went south, I questioned if it was my fault,” Lala confessed.
In the end, the love and concern from medical staff reassured her that she had done nothing wrong. Today, Sosa is thriving, and Lala remains a proud mother to her two daughters, including son Ocean, from a previous relationship with ex-fiancé Randall Emmett.
