David Krumholtz, known for his role as head elf Bernard in the iconic film “The Santa Clause,” had a strong premonition about the success of the Christmas classic. In an exclusive interview, Krumholtz shared with Page Six that even at just 16 years old, he sensed the film’s potential to resonate with audiences. “I knew when I was on that set that this movie was going to be amazing and huge. I felt it deep down and was confident about it,” he reflected during the premiere of the new film “Red One.”
The beloved holiday film, which marked its 30th anniversary this year, has not only become a perennial favorite but has also inspired two sequels and a Disney+ series. Directed by John Pasquin, it starred Tim Allen as Scott Calvin, a divorced father who unexpectedly finds himself taking on the role of Santa Claus. Krumholtz pointed out that the film’s narrative, rooted in themes of family and divorce, gives it a unique emotional depth that resonates with viewers. “People often overlook the fact that part of the story revolves around a father navigating his divorce. It’s a beautiful film, and I take pride in being part of it,” he noted.
Since starring in “The Santa Clause,” Krumholtz has gone on to achieve significant milestones in his career, including a recent role in the Oscar-winning film “Oppenheimer.” Despite this success, he modestly remarked that he doesn’t measure his career by the outcomes of his roles. “Being part of something celebrated is rewarding in itself. If I focus too much on what happens afterward, it might drive me crazy if those expectations aren’t met,” he explained.
At the “Red One” premiere, Krumholtz was accompanied by his daughter, Pemma Mae. The star-studded event also attracted other celebrities, including Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Chris Evans, highlighting the ongoing allure of holiday films in Hollywood.
