Gayle King recently revealed a quirky detail about her nighttime routine during her guest appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show.” The veteran journalist and co-host of “CBS Mornings,” who is 69, let slip that she prefers to sleep without any underwear. On the show, which aired on November 14, King shared, “I always lounge in a big old ratty T-shirt, but I don’t like the feel of underwear while I sleep.”
King explained her preference stems from a desire to “feel the breeze down there,” prompting Drew Barrymore to chime in with her agreement. Barrymore has even tried to instill this philosophy in her children, playfully telling them, “You must let it breathe. Let’s take a breathing break,” in reference to ditching diapers for a more liberated experience.
Barrymore also goes a step further when her kids are away; she enjoys sleeping in her birthday suit when home alone. “If the kids are with their dad for the night, I’ll sleep in the nude. I love it. I lock all the doors and just parade around,” she said with a hint of pride.
This isn’t King’s first revelation about her sleeping habits. Back in 2018, she disclosed that her nightly slumber totals only about four hours. She explained that her alarm is set for 3:22 a.m., with a backup alarm just three minutes later, allowing her to begin her day early. Despite her lack of much-needed sleep, King asserted that she has “never overslept.” She credits her ability to function on limited rest to her children being adults, quipping that she doesn’t have to rush home for family obligations.
King also shared a glimpse into her culinary preferences, admitting that cooking isn’t her strong suit. “Last night’s dinner was Honey Nut Cheerios with bananas and raisins. I was really proud of that,” she noted, highlighting her simplicity in meal choices.
The discussion around sleeping habits and personal preferences underscores not only individuality in lifestyle choices but also a lighthearted look at the candid day-to-day lives of prominent figures like King and Barrymore.
