Laura Dern has praised Liam Hemsworth, calling him “the safest person” to work with after they filmed intimate scenes in their new film, “Lonely Planet.” In a candid conversation, the celebrated actress expressed her appreciation for having a co-star who fosters such a secure environment on set.
In the Netflix romantic drama, Dern, who is 57, and the younger Hemsworth share several passionate moments. Reflecting on their collaboration, she remarked how fortunate she felt to work with someone who made the process seamless and open. In an interview with People, she stated, “By the time we were doing those scenes, there was nothing we couldn’t talk about together and work out creatively and professionally.”
Dern emphasized the importance of support from both her co-star and the crew throughout the filming process. She pointed out, “We had much discussion and a lot of support.” This modern approach to filmmaking allows actors to voice their needs and establish boundaries, which she finds “incredible.” She added, “It’s refreshing that filmmaking has evolved to a point where actors can be comfortable setting boundaries without the fear of jeopardizing their careers or becoming unpopular.”
The storyline revolves around a reclusive novelist, played by Dern, who embarks on a journey to a writer’s retreat in Morocco, where she meets the character Owen Brophy, portrayed by Hemsworth, and their romance blossoms.
Looking ahead, Dern expressed excitement about the possibility of a sequel to “Lonely Planet,” saying, “I’m feeling a sequel for sure.” This aligns with Hemsworth’s own enthusiasm for the project; he previously admitted that his main motivation for joining the film was the chance to work alongside Dern. He conveyed to Screen Rant, “I came onto this project because Laura was already a part of it. The opportunity to work with her was something I was really excited about.”
Fans can now stream “Lonely Planet” on Netflix and witness the chemistry between the two stars, which they both credit in part to their open communication and the supportive collaborative environment on set.
