At 80, Trejo is serious about maintaining his wellness routine, which includes a blend of exercise, nutritious meals, and self-care. His collaboration with Sandbox VR features the thrilling Deadwood Valley Zombod challenge, where players experience a wild and immersive virtual reality environment. “It’s incredible how realistic it feels—you genuinely feel like you’re battling zombies or, at times, getting devoured by them,” Trejo expressed.
The Machete star noted the communal aspect of this kind of technology. “People feel a stronger connection after engaging in shared experiences, like attempting to save humanity from a zombie apocalypse. It’s ironic; while tech can sometimes lead to loneliness, Sandbox VR fosters a sense of community.”
When he isn’t lost in the world of virtual reality, Trejo enjoys hosting lively game nights with friends and family. “We started with Animal Crossing, but now board games have taken over our evenings,” he stated.
In his quest for victory, whether in games or life, Trejo adheres to a holistic approach to strength. “I kick off my routine with walking. It’s the simplest and healthiest exercise, good for the heart. Sometimes I take the dogs out individually and mix in some bench presses, light weights, and crunches. The key is to keep moving.”
When it comes to his meals, the restaurateur shared, “Breakfast usually consists of eggs, huevos rancheros, or sometimes oatmeal. For lunch, I love tacos—they’re so convenient. My diet focuses on plenty of protein, like fish, chicken, and pork, along with lots of vegetables. I believe in keeping things straightforward and healthy.”
On the mental front, Trejo is grounded by meditation and gratitude. “Every day, I spend half an hour meditating in my backyard, reflecting on the week. It’s crucial to find balance in life. I also acknowledge my blessings every day, thanking God for keeping me alive and well.”
